Police officer charged with on-duty shoplifting from Marshalls, investigators say

A Paterson police officer was arrested Thursday on accusations he shoplifted clothing from a local Marshalls while on duty, investigators said.
Jeury DeJesus-Rodriguez, 25, of Paterson, was charged with third-degree official misconduct and shoplifting, which is a disorderly persons offense, according to a statement from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident allegedly happened while DeJesus-Rodriguez was working an overtime shift providing security for the Marshalls in Paterson.
While working, he shoplifted several items of clothing by taking them to an employee bathroom and removing the packaging and/or price tags, the office said.
He then left the store without paying for the clothing which was valued at $66.97, authorities said.
DeJesus-Rodriguez’s current status with the department was unclear. A spokesman for the office could not immediately be reached for comment
