Definitely not a step backwards. First Take is still a big deal on ESPN and he makes it even bigger. A sports debate show is still a great spot for him. He loves talking football. Say what you want about ESPN but they have plenty of good football people and I'm sure they'll have RC stop by to join them. He'll be going viral plenty and bringing more viewers to his own platform. Only being there part time gives him freedom to do other things.

If he was big on FS1 he'll be even bigger on ESPN.
Na…. This Definitely a step forward

His profile and access finna be bigger
It's a step down to transition from having top billing, having your name in the show's title, and your face on the billboard, to becoming a bit-part contributor on a competing show. By accepting a less prominent role on a former rival's show, Shannon is lowering his own value.

Even though ESPN and First Take is and always will be a more popular than FOX/Undisputed, Shannon is walking away from being the main guy. He's moving away from a role where he's putting up 25 shots to playing in garbage time, with scrubs that will chuck up their own shots and refuse to pass the ball.

If "IT'S MY TURN!!!" was a problem then good luck with Molly cutting people off, SAS flexing on contributors (Jay Williams, Jalen, etc.), contributors trying to out-clown each other by saying dumbest shyt so they can get headlines.

Shannon Sharpe is a Hall of Famer, top 5 TEs of all time, Super Bowl winner, versatile enough to talk multiple sports and social issues. He is well-known enough to mingle with celebrities and most importantly on a crazy upward trajectory. His podcast was doing huge numbers, with multiple full episodes getting millions of views, even without featuring A-list celebrities. Meanwhile, Stephen A Smith, the host of the show he will now be a contributor on, only managed to surpass a million views once, and that was when he was discussing Shannon Sharpe. That is SAS's most-viewed video on YouTube.

If he was gonna branch out and for example be a contributor on GMA and then occasionally appear on First Take, that would make sense. If he gets his own daytime show after Pat MacAfee Show airs during football season and contributes couple of days a week on First Take that would make sense.

However, for Shannon to willingly step away from being the main host, without any scandal or case of sexual harassment, and to place himself on the same level as the corpse of Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo, who has been irrelevant since 2008, is definitely a backwards move :hubie:

How? You know nothing about what the man values in life to determine whether something was step down or not, he might not wanna work as much for all we know.

Being able to choose where you wanna be at is an improvement period, especially when you already have retirement money. Everyone ain't tryna be a workaholic in the entertainment space
Have you ever heard his interviews lol? That man WANTS to work. He’s a workaholic no doubt and has to have people convince him to slow down. You don’t look like that at that age without maintaining an insane work ethic. The Coli is so anti work it’s wild.

thats true...
but it doesnt mean he wants top billing.

Folks on here dont like SAS but you cant deny he's talented on the mic.
Not many people can talk by themselves for hours and still be entertaining.

Plus the pressure that comes with being top dog

I mean I hear you…. But I feel like this is probably more on his terms.

Also was he really top billed?

The show he left was called Undisputed… it wasn’t called Skip and Shannon. I get what you trynna say but that kings feels like a mute point

First Take = Undisputed

And

First Take>Undisputed

As far as I know, his Club Shay Shay show was his and he still gets to keep that.

Truthfully and if this was some months ago I would be more than inclined to agree with you but bum ass sections on the coli wore me down….

This the logic of AEW VP Cody Rhodes (Shannon) leaving AEW (FOX) to go to WWE (ESPN) to be with Roman Reigns (SAS) and a bunch of scrubs. But since it’s on the bigger platform…. All the shyt he shoveling will absolutely look like he swimming in diamonds with all the smoke, mirrors, mask, lights and fireworks.

I don’t think the market for Shannon is what he thought it was going to be.

Going to a part time contributor and getting paid by the appearance is a huge downgrade from being on 5 times a week for 2.5 hours. All of that airtime helped drive his brand and the Club Shay Shay show. He should’ve stayed with Skip if this is the best he can get.

this is going to be a bad move by shannon

one thing about skip, he didn't give af about who shannon was and it legitimately bothered him to the point that he would rage. it's what made the show. I notice that Stephen A acts different around people he admires and that has a resume. they might fake beef but it's going to be contrived and obvious.

Mondays and Tuesdays...that's a good look for the show. :obama:
Slide Mad Dog in there on Wednesdays. Should be entertaining. I imagine they'll bring on JJ Redikk once the NBA season starts as well. Will be fun to see Unc and him get into it.

It was called Undisputed with Skip and Shannon, and all logos and branding featured their faces and names, with Skip's name in a slightly larger font :skip:

Also one very important thing I forgot about which @Squirrel from Meteor Man mentioned, is the airtime. In addition to having more of a platform to expand his brand, all these guys love the spotlight and maximizing their airtime. All of them have huge egos, majority of disputes he had with Skip were over how many minutes each of them had to talk.

As far as I know, his Club Shay Shay show was his and he still gets to keep that.

Truthfully and if this was some months ago I would be more than inclined to agree with you but bum ass sections on the coli wore me down….
Yeah, apparently he still owns it. I had assumed he could leverage its success to transition into something larger, but it looks like the timing was bad for him, given the podcast bubble burst and ESPN layoffs. Five years ago he could've secured a multi-million dollar deal from one these companies trying to jump on the podcast wave.

I don't know wrestling so I would compare it to being Russell Westbrook on the Wizards (averaging a triple double, losing record but making the playoffs, not as many national games). Sure his other teammate Beal/Skip is going to take more shots but it's still two of them running the show together.

Russ going from Wiz to taking a diminished role with Lakers where he's not a part of the 'big two' but a third wheel at best. If things go bad the lead guy, Bron/SAS, can just shift the blame on him, leave him fighting for minutes with Pat Beverley/Kendrick Perkins and eventually ship his ass out of there.

edit:
In Shannon's case I wouldn't even compare him to Russ, who ended up being washed, it would be more like Jaylen Brown going to Lakers to stand in the corner for Bron and AD.

None of this matters when First Take destroys Undisputed in the ratings. The ratings will be even bigger with his addition.

I'm sure ESPN wanted him there 5 days a week but this is a way for him to focus on Club Shay Shay while still debating.

Yall trying to spin this as an L because he didn't do what you thought he should do instead of seeing that he did what he wanted to do.
