So, I was randomly in Stratford-upon-Avon. Ran into a good amount of Americans, but only one of them was Black. Now, I understand it's not necessarily a reflection of how Black Americans - or Americans, in general - view the bard, but it got me wondering: what are your views on Shakespeare?

I learned about him in high school, Romeo & Juliet, I hated that shyt though but I'm blaming that on me being 14 and not into reading yet. To say the least I acknowledge his accomplishments, he's created a lot of words and concepts like the "bedroom", but the thing that really trips me out is that I've heard that someone wrote some of his plays or some shyt like that, can anyone explain this to me?

He's a genius. "Hamlet" is one of the greatest pieces of prose ever committed to paper. "Macbeth" is essential reading. His sonnets are great, as well.

Rich people don't want to credit anyone who isn't like them as being capable of writing so proficiently. Kind of how they try to tell us the Egyptians were White :jawalrus:

Early edition of the "hard on (alledged) hoes" movement.

Basically, there are no extant copies of Shakespeare's plays in their original format. It's mostly because he was too gully to bother writing his plays on manuscripts that'd last longer than proceedings deemed them necessary. As a result, some have claimed that the range and knowledge shown in so many diverse writings could not have come from one man. They claim that Shakespeare instead of being the name of one playwright, is a name that a coalition of writers, spearheaded by Bacon, used for their writing cabal. Goodness knows how.

Aye. Most definetly. Even his worst play, Titus Andronicus, had some incredible lines. My favourite exhange:

Demetrius: "Villain, what hast thou done?"
Aaron: "That which thou canst not undo."
Chiron: "Thou hast undone our mother."
Aaron: "Villain, I have done thy mother."

The answer I needed! Thank you. Do you think Shakespeare was one person or a coalition of writers?

:why:

Nikka, not only have I taken multiple classes on "Egyptology" from a prestigious university but I'm considerably smarter than you. Don't come at me, gnat.

As for an explanation, I forgot you're quite dense and retarded and can't inference.

Back during Shakespeare's time, most people were not educated enough to write complex prose, let along read. Shakespeare grew up lower class thus it could be concluded he would not have the ability to write something like "Othello" or "Julius Caesar." He also interpolated alot of old stories that only someone who was educated in Latin and Greco-Roman writings would know. The "cabal" of writers explanation was one of "many" concocted by the Wealthy to discredit the fact that a person of a much lower class basically outshined all of the other writes of his day i.e. Christopher Marlowe

Definitely one person. It's funny that one of the guides/speakers at Shakespeare's childhood house pointed out that's the question they probably get asked the most. Anyway, there's just too much known about the man, his wealth and his standing in his time. Besides, his poems to/for Anne Hathaway show a style that is omewhat consistent with his plays.

:snoop: no one called you stupid, and if you're smarter than me and you truly feel if I'm beneath you then stop dapping my posts and bredding me.

Wish you would of just given me that explanation instead telling me to infer all of these things. How the fukk am I supposed to take in all of that from a simple ass statement?

love it. first play i ever directed was a shortened version of 'titus'. AMND was prolly the goat but i enjoyed all the comedies, particularly 'much ado' and LLL. i'm actually reading the tempest right now. his later work got kinda crazy, especially genre wise. i used to keep the sonnets in my back pocket lmao. good times. we actually started a shakespeare class in my HS and i was in it with like 8 other kids (remarkable for a public school focused on football and who's gonna get a superbowl ring playing 3rd string next :krs:) the first year. one of the best homos ever, btw! lgbt history month in full effect.
