Hear me out, my wife was talking about how she liked to watch The Cosby Show, but she never found it funny.

Other than a few instances and a episode here and there, she mentioned she never looked at it as a comedy

maybe the episode of Clair screaming at Vanessa, but that is it

so what I am asking is, is the Cosby show actually the real show about nothing i.e. a show just about a family in New York?

The Cosby Show designed to be the least stereotypical show on TV.

So it's less about the casual roasting that happened on other Black shows and less ridiculous scenarios

Basically it was like Fat Albert a message filled show.

The Cosby show was essentially the Blue print for all the new family and normal life shows that came after it. The entertainment is not from jokes or outrageous circumstances, but instead the situations that mirrored real life. Along the the lines of you laughed, because the characters and their circumstances would remind you of your own experiences or experiences you heard of. You would empathize with the characters, because of how close to home their interactions, environment, and circumstances were to real life.

So it was not a comedy show, it was a show about family. More along the lines of something like the Walton's for our people. A wholesome show about a Black American family in place of the normal White families they normally had on primetime before then.

This is how I always felt about it.

Never watched that sht and I never fcked with Cosby.

People know I have this thing against Cosby, oprah, and magic Johnson.
So when Cosby got caught up in his legal issues people thought I was psychic cause I always called him a piece of sht lol

Norfeast groovin…
Seinfeld is about the everyday experiences of four friends in NYC. Cosby show is about an educated Black couple raising their large family with a sense of dignity. Other than not being funny to your friend, I don’t think there’s any other similarities between the two shows OP.

Nah. If anything....Cosby's would be like....the Black Version of like....maybe Family Ties or something. It definitely wasn't a Seinfeld type show about "nothing".

Also, that "about nothing" tag is false. It is about hella different little instances, and misadventures...in a sense. It's definitely not about "nothing". It just doesn't have like an overarching plot I guess...if that makes sense.
