"Straight Outta Compton" comes out today and it's coming at an interesting time since there's a lot of debating about ghost-writing.
If most people didn't before, after this movie drops, a lot of hip-hop fans (casual and otherwise) will consider them legends, especially Dre, Cube, and Eazy, and I've heard Eazy-E referred to as a hip-hop icon which isn't surprising because he obviously had a lot of influence on the culture. While making this thread, another one came up where someone was mentioning that he deserved to be on the Mount Rushmore of hip-hop.
During the discussion of Drakes "Back to Back" freestyle and how it shouldn't be deemed credible because of the ghostwriter accusations, someone also mentioned how weak it was and how it shouldn't be compared to classic diss records like "fukk Wit Dre Day" and "Real Muthafukkin' G's".
If a rapper having a ghostwriter destroys all of their credibility since we don't know who wrote what, should those records be held in any kind of regard to hip-hop classics?
Is Eazy-E not worthy of "hip-hop legend" status because he had a ghostwriter and he doesn't get the Dr. Dre exception since he didn't produce the hits?
As a group, should N.W.A. be discredited from legendary status since Ice Cube wrote most of their raps (and not in the "Wu-Tang style", as previously mentioned and they were backed by a Jew (which seems to be a concern)?
I just wanna know.... :lupegarvey:
For the record, I would say "Yes", regardless of who wrote what but what do you think?
