A fight that is being talked about for next year is a battle between reigning light heavyweight king Sergey Kovalev and WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward. Kovalev, who is currently preparing for his July 25th bout against his IBF mandatory challenger Nadjib Mohemmedi, is certainly interested in that possibility.

He said on Thursday after his media day in Oxnard at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy:

"I'm open for any fight, if this fight is interesting for the people, for the boxing world, then this fight can happen. Andre Ward is a dangerous fighter and he's the winner of the 'Super Six'. He has big experience and I want to get some experience in the fight against him."

Egis Klimas, the manager of Kovalev, makes it clear that a Ward fight must take place at the light heavyweight limit of 175-pounds, no catch-weights will be tolerated.

"I'm sure he wants to step into 175, he wants to get some tune-up fights and after that we can start negotiating," said Klimas.

"Right now he doesn't know where he wants to go. Does he want to fight (Gennady) Golovkin in the lower weight. Does he want to go up in weight to fight Kovalev?"

Ward's return to the ring on June 20th versus Paul Smith had a weight limit of 172-pounds.

"As for Kovalev," continued Klimas. "We're not going below 175 - not even 174.5, it's not negotiable. So 175 if he wants to step in. I'm sure that would be a good fight for everybody. I believe fans would love that fight."
