September 11th: Where Were You?

I was in 8th grade, headed to History class, when I saw the TV in class was on the news. Didn’t really have class for the rest of the day (well, except 8th Grade Algebra), I remember going from class to class, watching the news. Didn’t understand what was actually going on until the next day, as the facts were beginning to be clarified.

After that day, the course of American history was forever altered.

7th grade. We watched as the second plane hit and a girl asked if they did it on purpose. The class slid her 1000

High School, I had a Radio and was listening to the reports throughout Algebra. I saw select people getting the chance to go Home and other people torn up, scared. I then spent the rest of that day with my Ex Girlfriend and we just watched it on her TV in shock.

At high school in downtown Jersey City looking out the window watching the smoke and soot billow across the Hudson and debris and bodies falling from the towers live.

I worked 2nd shift at a pharmaceutical packaging place(Akorn), so I was at home, watching it all unfold. I get to work, and one of my homeboys is in the break room, cryin. I'm like "he must've knew someone in the towers"

Come to find out, he just broke up with his girlfriend.

9th grade in Florida. Had moved from NYC just 2 months prior. Walked into 2nd period and another teacher came into the class crying talking about a plane hitting one of the WTC towers. I had lived in NYC my whole life up until moving and I never heard of a plane getting near, let alone hitting one of the towers My teacher turned the tv on and we saw the building up in smoke. Saw the 2nd plane hit the other tower live on tv. Then hearing about the Pentagon and the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania. People talking about planes heading here and there. I left to go home a period later and checked in on fam/friends and watched CNN for the rest of the day.

Teacher put the news on after the first plane hit. we were all making jokes about how stupid of a pilot you have to be to accidently fly into a building. Then we saw another plane hit..

School sent us all home soon after

Just started my junior year in college. Woke up to Russ Parr on my clock radio and him discussing the tragedy of Aaliyah and now a plane flying into the World Trade Center. I thought it was a small plane like a Cesna or something. Didn't think much of it, got ready for class and when I got there the tvs were on and everybody was watching it and thats when I saw how big of a deal it was.

Had just crossed the Williamsburg Bridge on the M train after dropping my son off at the babysitter. I could see the towers in the distance. Nothing had happened yet. I worked on 55th between 6th and 7th Aves, so I was underground while everything was unfolding. Funny thing about NY; in terms of distance, it's nothing from midtown to downtown Manhattan. But when I got out of the train station, you wouldn't have thought there was a terrorist attack taking place a few miles away. It was like a normal day, at least by where I was. It wasn't until I got to the office and dapped up my dude at the mailroom front desk, that he told me "yo, a plane hit the World Trade". I thought it might have been one of them small Cessnas or something. I went downstairs to my department and it was hysteria. One of my coworker's wife actually worked in one of the towers, and he was frantically trying to contact her. Since lines were scrambled, there was virtually no communication. Misinformation all over the place. One broad was in the lobby having a full on panic attack talking about "they blew up the White House!!!" Nobody knew what was going on.

I had no idea what happened or how it happened until I was able to get home with my wife and watch it on the news. That night, I got up like 3 in the morning to make my son a bottle. We had the windows in our apartment open, so as I'm walking to the kitchen, I smelled smoke, like something nearby was on fire. But I thought it was odd that I didn't hear any fire trucks. I poked my head out the window to see If I could see where the fire was. But I didn't see anything. Plus it was quiet outside. No people yelling "Fire" or anything. Then as I started to get my full wits, I realized that what I was smelling was the burning from Ground Zero. It had an odd effect on me, having the remnants from all that destruction and terror be right there in my house. I couldn't sleep the rest of the night.

My sister had the BP bootleg and said I could keep it. Went and bought fab's album, then the next morning, I copped the retail BP.

I'm from Decatur, Illinois, but I was feelin' like a New York cat since I was ridin' around bumpin' BP way in advance. Played "Never Change" in the parking lot at work a week before it dropped and nikkaz was like "What's that?!!!"
