A U.S. Secret Service member was arrested early Friday after authorities found him passed out on a Miami sidewalk and he became combative after they checked on him, police said.

The officer, identified as Aaron Francis Engler, was found hours after President Obama had left South Florida, according to CBS4 Miami. According to the arrest report, Miami police officers were nearby on an unrelated call when they saw Engler. When they checked on him, he allegedly started to fight with officers, according to the police report.

"I'm late for my plane, I have to go to to New York for the presidential debate," the agent told cops, according to a Secret Service official who spoke to FoxNews.com.

Police handcuffed Engler and discovered his Secret Service identification when they went through his pockets. Law enforcement sources told CBS4 Engler was part of the advance team for the president’s visit on Thursday. Once the president left Miami, Engler said he went drinking and got very drunk, law enforcement sources said.

Engler, who FoxNews.com confirmed was scheduled to work on the advance team for the presidential debate at New York's Hofstra University on Oct. 16, was not armed at the time he was arrested, law enforcement sources said. He was charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest without violence, both misdemeanors. He was released, turned over to the Secret Service and flown back to Washington, D.C.

The Secret Service made headlines earlier this year when agents were involved in a prostitution scandal in Colombia. Since then, the agency has tried to crack down on drinking by agents.

Well there's been a huge increase in death threats since he took over so they're stretched thin. When you have to provide Secret Service for the President and his family, the Vice President and his family, other White House personnel and opposition candidates since the primary (even Herman Cain had a Secret Service detail) it begs the question of how many qualified professionals can you find. A lot of these guys are probably just typical law enforcement meathead douchebags.
