Scorsese has obviously had a far better run than Coppola BUT Coppola is still the goat

I been binge watching some of their films and Coppola's highs are still higher than Scorsese's

The Godfather 1 and The Godfather 2 alone

Apocalypse Now

Then The Conversation


These are masterpieces in cinema. Straight up monumental films.

Other great and sometimes lesser appreciated films are Rumble Fish, The Outsiders, The Cotton Club, and Bram's Dracula.

I like and respect Scorsese but Coppola in prime and peak >

Disagree, longevity has to count for something. You can maybe make the argument Coppola's top 3 are better than Scorsese's but entire catalogue Scorsese tops him easily IMO

Quality > Quantity

Altho Scorsese's quantity is not bad by any means. He's got a handful of good to great movies and a handful of classics.

Yeah, my argument is Coppola's top 3 are better than Scorsese's catalog.

Yeah? Naw, I'd pick Coppola's top 3films over Scorsese's top 3.films. But I hear you tho.

Coppola had the goat decade. But Scorsese is the chosen one. If their top 3 films cancel each other out, Francis only has ONE great film. Scorsese has Mean Streets, The Departed, Casino, Wolf of Wall Street, Gangs of New York (all over several decades).

Coppola was great in the seventies but that's about it. I think apocalypse now broke him creatively. I think scorceses longevity has to be accounted for it's not like Coppola died like biggie after his seventies run and left us wondering what could be. He continued making movies just sub par and not even sub par in comparison to his early work just sub par in general
