Say one day we gain the power to manipulate people's memories. Does an actual experience still matter or would you prefer the artificial memories?

Like say you could download the memories of a trip to the grand canyon. Is it better than actually going if you can recall as if you did? :jbhmm:

Or switch gears. Say we could restore the partial or even entire memories of those with memory and cognitive disorders. Is the cost worth it? :jbhmm:

I sure wish my grandma could've gained hers before she passed :francis:

But the potential for evil is still high. What's really real? :lupe:

Depends.

If it was like the Matrix, then I'd use it to pack my brain with useful shyt that I'm too lazy to learn like another language.

Memory revision is currently a form of therapy. In people who’ve suffered addiction causing trauma one of the keys for healing is to revisit an experience and view it from different perspectives to gain a higher understanding. Things like money blocks, behaviors and attitudes can be altered. I love the concept. And really it should be a life mission to continuously turn within and program the sub conscious.

Since memories are failable, influenciable, maleable, and sometimes even volatile; I don't think an ability to manipulate memories will change how we experience them. Really, some are able to manipulate memories now just through talking to a person or even through their own actions based on how they feel about an event after that fact.

So essentially, what you are talking about already exists in various forms that are personal and external to a person.
