This is a big development not only for Tesla but also for Saudi Arabia. The Saudis already have a target date of shifting their economy from completely oil to a more tech-based. If they help take Tesla private, they will have a major foothold in that area as well and will boost their efforts considerably. When oil stops being a major energy producer, the Saudis will be in a position to take over the region as well as influence a lot of large muslim populated countries.

This is not a bad thing. However, it is a major development and certainly a harbinger to how the world's economy will move in the near future.

Amazon was founded in 1994, went public in 1997, didn't start posting profits until 2004, didn't post consistently meaningful profits until 2007.

And that was nothing but a sales website.

Especially when you're talking about something that requires as much serious R&D as a technologically advanced car manufacturer, I don't see taking a few years to turn profits as any evidence of a "scam."
