Anyone have any thoughts on sampling fairly recent tracks. I just found a song from an EP in 2013 but this beginning part I just have to fukk with.

Is that too soon?

I remember Yayo had a Britney Spears sample of a recent song on his CD back in the day.

I'm old so I still feel :flabbynsick: when I hear a sample from a 90's song. But, to me I think it's cool to sample whatever as long as it's not a song that's currently getting heavy radio rotation. that devalues the beat IMO. even if it's dope.

There's no such thing as too soon, especially if you're not worrying about clearances. If the record is still making money being actively on the charts, The publishers and record company might kill you financially as it relates to how much money they want up front. Not to mention the publishing they would take; however, a chunk of your publishing would get taken regardless. Kendrick recently sampled a 2008 record for the "Don't kill my vibe" track. That said there is no law as it relates to how old a record has to be before you can sample it.
