Saints owner Gayle Benson did not clear up any uncertainty about the team's head coach Sean Payton when she was asked about his future on Monday.
"We don't know, you know?" Benson said at a Mardi Gras-related conference at the Faubourg Brewing Company, which she owns. "Who knows. We'll find out soon enough, I guess. I don't think any of us know. But he’ll let us know soon enough.”
Payton, 58, has been the Saints' head coach for the past 16 seasons, highlighted by a Super Bowl win in 2010. He's under contract with the Saints through the 2024 season. Before he agreed to a five-year extension in 2019, there was speculation that he could leave to coach a new team.
"I don't see myself working anywhere else," he said at the time of the extension.
Among Payton's options: retire, return to the Saints, or pursue a position in TV.
