They’ve been 5%ers since they came out in the 90s? RZA has always been pretty “spiritual” I guess you would call it, taking anything he thinks is good from any religious teachings. 5% or Islam has always been at the top for him tho from the things I’ve read and heard him say.

When you break down the doctrines it's hypocritical to follow both. But 5%/NOI really was the gateway drug to knowledge for a lot of Black youth in the 80's & 90's. It's the foundation of "lyrical" hip hop. Even Katt Williams 50 Million views shouted out Farrakhan.
As you see they hold little weight in the streets now, a big reason why lyricism has become less important.
