Big news coming out of Marvel Studios. Badass Digest report and Anthony and Joe Russo have just closed their deal to direct Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 and 2. They’re about to go into production on Captain America: Civil War and will do back to back Avengers films after that. They’re scheduled for release in May 2018 and May 2019, as the handy image above states.

But where does that leave Spider-Man and Ghostbusters, two properties the Russos were also mentioned with? We’ll discuss that and the Avengers Infinity War directors below.

Badass Digest broke the news. They said expect an announcement soon.

We’d heard the Russos were clamoring to do Avengers 3 and 4 after Civil War and Marvel loved the idea. However, in between then Spider-Man came back into play for Marvel, and the Russos were attached to a new Ghostbusters movie with Channing Tatum. This deal would almost certainly knock them out of those projects, though it would let them play with Spider-Man.

We’ll have more analysis soon.

Whedon the gawd or bust
Winter Soldier > Avengers tbh I'm more excited for Civil War than Age of Ultron because of the Russos brothers they have a good handle on ensemble action needed to tackle something of this scale and the pace they're films better. That said I'm sure Whedon will be involved in some way most likely as a overseer.

How you figure that? As far as I know the only ensemble work they've done is "Arrested Development".

I agree "The Winter Soldier" > "The Avengers" but that has nothing to do with anything. I also prefer "Guardians Of The Galaxy" to "The Avengers" but that don't mean I'd trust James Gunn to direct Thanos. Like I said in other threads, Whedon has actually dealt with Thanos type characters over the last 20 years...."TWS" is the shyt but The Winter Soldier ain't exactly Thanos.

It's gonna have to have a serious tone so i'm eager to watch this. Plus you can't let the public get overly attached to directors...

I wonder how many get killed in the movie, only to find out they never died.

Mainly using Winter Soldier as an example the movie had a better handle on balancing character screen time and making sure they shine and have a reason to be in the film. Avengers on the other hand had Cap looking weak compared to how he was portrayed in WS and had Thor left doing very little . Tbh Thanos isn't that hard to nail and I'm sure Whedon's notes on him will be used in his portrayal he'll still be a creative consultant on these films going forward.

Fair enough....but "The Avengers" was basically an experiment at the time. It's far from a perfect movie but it was uncharted territory. "The Avengers" had 4 characters that carried their own movies (Cap, Ironman, Thor and Hulk)....then multiple side characters (Black Widow, Hawkeye, Fury, Loki, etc.) on top of that.

"TWS" it was far easier to balance the characters. It had 1 main character, Captain America. Falcon and Black Widow were side characters. Then to a lesser extent there was Fury and TWS.

So yeah, "TWS" was a better movie but they had to accomplish a lot less with it. Now, if "TWS" is better than "Avengers 2" I'll probably reassess my opinion, but as of right now I'm not convinced these are the guys for "The Infinity War".

I agree with what your saying its part of the reason why I really dislike how the avengers is another 45 minutes of build up before the team assembles.
