He was prob the type to think "what's the worse the FBI could do?", or maybe the judge was a setup for a mistrial.....idk but the prosecutors came correct and even had the judge copping pleas for his irregular bullshyt. Manafort was gonna be convicted based on everything we've heard.
So if Manafort could see the writing on the wall on this case and remember this isn't even the case that deals with the Russians. That was going to be tried after they hit him with years for not paying taxes. The smart move would be make the deal before a decision is made on this to avoid as many years as possible. Like it's game theory to a degree, it didn't hurt his ability to snitch to see the FBI's hand, but once seeing it........ SNITCH cause they clearly had him.
