We need to have a conversation that his supporters don’t matter and especially are not the ones who put him in the White House.. once we deal with that then the media can stop worrying about his support amongst his supporters and ignore them all together

I just don't think it's fit for a president. When it happens in Africa, Latin America, Asia, you get deadly results, cults of personality, and practical monarchies.

once a president leaves office he becomes a private citizen, just like anyone else. the reason it may be dangerous elsewhere is b/c those nations don't have credible, truly independent political/social institutions that have the credibility to take on the president. it's one thing to say that you can understand/respect why our presidents generally don't comment/criticize the person in office - they have their own reasons. but please take that "i don't think it's fit" pearl clutchery somewhere else. in times like these, many people actually look to widely respected figures (past presidents would fall into that category) to provide context/advice/commentary informed by their experiences and knowledge.

There's a lot of other people who can carryout the task and a lot of them are doing it. I don't have a lot of faith in our institutions right now and if you feel there is it might be a good time revisit why you feel that way.

The initial convo was whether Obama should name Trump in his speeches and whether he was a p*ssy for not doing so.

If we have these great institutions with sufficient checks and balances, then the need for past presidents to publicly ridicule Trump by name would not be necessary. If you think that the institutions are at risk, then the idea of Obama riding on Trump delegitimizes Trump's presidency and will lead to a 3rd World Scenario.

It isn't about pearl clutchery. It is about foresight to where things end up on an alternative trajectory.
