They run a resort in Long Branch, there have long been talks about repairing the pier and opening up a ferry to NYC. Kushner Family applied for a bunch of permits and other paperwork in order to start building a Ferry/Pier parking and terminal. So they started construction on their project and then suddenly stopped work, applied for a tax free gov't bond and assistance from the city in order to complete their project.

Kushner’s seaside resort sits right next to the proposed pier. Once the project is complete, a former city official said it would raise property values at the Kushner resort, which is currently selling 269 condos for as much as $1.9m each. (500million total value)

If the pier is rebuilt on its historic site and the ferry starts up, the value of those condos could rise as much as 50%(bringing the total value of the development to 766million), said Howard Woolley, Long Branch’s former business administrator.

Kushner Cos spokeswoman Christine Taylor said the pier would benefit Long Branch, and had “no specific benefit to us versus anyone else” in town.
