The military has been used to supplement DHS and border patrol in the past but they have never outright oversaw border security. And Mattis isn't going to allow them to start. He is probably going to ask Trump after looking around to make sure no one can hear him has he lost his f*cking mind.

We have a military that is recovering from over extension of multiple wars. Then there is the Bolton factor. It is a waste of time, resources and tax dollars.

Trump is not concerned with the details at all. He just spews whatever high-level bs that comes to his mind without any forethought or careful consideration of details whatsoever.
