Hillary Clinton is the ultimate Republican Boogeyman and can rile up Republicans with ease. He, along with Fox News, Infowars, Breitbart, etc., were probably more prepared to do battle with Hillary as "The Opposition" like the Tea Party did in 2010 with Obama. The conservative media was drooling at the thought of daily updates on Clinton's e-mails, Clinton Foundation, and Benghazi. Their goal was to successfully oust her in an election in 2020 and celebrate their take down of her.
Problem is, not only did Trump win, but they have majorities in the House and Senate that they were completely unprepared for. They've lost their cash cow in Clinton, Republicans have proven to be tone-deaf to their constituents, can't agree on much due to different factions, and their efforts to drag Clinton into anything just seem desperate as opposed to if she won the election. Now you have the prospect of the Right Wing party colluding with Russia to help Trump win, and the right wing media, instead of isolating Trump's people from the Republican party as a whole, has for the most part become defacto state-run media and just spew out his talking points and far right conspiracies.
It's wild to think about the response of the Republican Party and the Right Wing Media if Hillary Clinton won the election with help of Putin, asked the FBI Director to pledge his loyalty to her, fire the FBI Director, and discredit the IC at every turn in her first year of being President.
