McCabe is one of the people who can corroborate Comey's testimony and memos. They are systematically attacking all of those potential witnesses to diminish their credibility and Comey's credibility.

We've known since end of last year McCabe was retiring in March so I would be interested to see - even speculation - on why all parties mutually agreed for him to walk now though.
I fully expect a bombshell to come out tonight to counteract McCabe stepping down and the further put pressure on Republicans to protect Mueller

From what is being reported at this point is that Trump and Co. want him out and the deal is, instead getting fired, leave now and keep your retirement.
