I swear these people are evil
And this is what worries me, say the Democrats take back the house, vote for impeachment, Don cheeto is removed as president. When the Republicans eventually take over again, what's stopping them for trying to impeach a Democratic president. The nut jobs have already taken over their party, what is stopping them. They will use Trumps impeachment as reason enough to try and remove a Democratic president.
I read an in depth article on Pence from the New Yorker (I think) and he's definitely an opportunist, manipulator, no real fixed ideology. He's got that in common with his boss. So, if he was scheming on the side, and plotting, I can see that 100%.

There has to actually be an impeachable offense to start the process. If they basically just try to remove someone because they have beef, it’ll torpedo their own careers among the swing voters.

Impeachment does not equal removal. Remember that Nixon was impeached, but resigned before he was removed. Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were impeached, but didn't resign.
Removal is so hard to do that it will take significant Republican support even if the Democrats somehow win it back with that shytty map for them in 2018. It'll take about a third of Republican senators to remove.
What you're hoping for is a Nixon scenario where Trump gets impeached and the GOP party leaders convince him to quit so that he doesn't get embarrassed by being formally removed. Or that the pee tape comes out and dude has a coronary, which seems about as likely.
Impeachment alone isn't enough, though.
