Five people died and at least one was wounded when a police convoy came under attack on Wednesday in the volatile southern Russian republic of Ingushetia. A hidden explosive device ripped through the first of the convoy’s two vehicles as it moved through the republic’s Sunzhen district, said a local official of the Investigative Committee. Unidentified fighters then opened fire from a nearby wooded area before fleeing, the Investigative Committee said. Officials have begun an investigation and are searching for the attackers. The bombing came after several weeks of increased violence in the North Caucasus region.
