According to “Shocking Wrestling Plans You Won’t Believe Almost Happened”, a new book from WhatCulture.com, former WWE creative team member Kevin Eck revealed that several WWE writers originally pitched some ideas for Rusev to be a comedy act when he debuted on the main roster.
Several members of the main WWE creative team were reportedly shown some clips of Rusev in WWE NXT and they would start bursting out in laughter. WWE’s creative team then began coming up with pitches for him as a comedy act. Eck claims Triple H always saw Rusev as more of a dominant heel, which forced the creative team to drop their ideas for him being a comedy act.
Eck said, “We started coming up with pitches for him as a comedy act, but we were told that Triple H envisioned Rusev as a monster heel so we had better forget about the character being played for laughs.”
