How did the show do?
- It is being reported that this year's Royal Rumble did 322,000 buys in North America and 176,000 buys overseas for a total of 498,000 buys. This number is up from the 438,000 buys that last year's did, as well as the 446,000 buys in 2011 and the 462,000 in 2010; in fact, if the number holds it will be the largest since the 2008 Rumble did 533,000 buys.
The majority of the difference between this year and last is in North American viewers; the 2012 Rumble did 272,000 domestic and 166,000 overseas buys.
Here is the updated chart for the year. W represents worldwide buys and D represents domestic buys. The numbers listed are in thousands.

Meltzer has much higher numbers for 11 and 10:
2012 443,000
2011 446,000
2010 462,000

I never said they did 600,000 buys.
Rumble 2012: 483,000 worldwide (299,000 domestic)
2011: 476 worldwide (281,000 domestic)
Both from the financial breakdown issue.
I am not disputing the number is up this year.

As part of WWE's First Quarter 2012 earnings report announced on Thrusday, the company released pay-per-view buyrate information for this year's Royal Rumble and Elimination chamber events.
The Royal Rumble drew 443,000 buys, down from 446,000 buys in 2011, and 462,000 buys in 2010.
The table is in the Nov. 19, 2012 Wrestling Observer, they do seem like high numbers but I am just c&p from that issue.
I tried to post the table but it gets all messed up and unaligned.
Weird. I get late buys and all but almost a 40k difference from one report to the other is not believable. And we are talking similar changes in 2 PPVs from different years.
Oh well I guess.
Yeah I just assume he knows what he's talking about, just skimming the issue, seems he says it is mostly down to late buys, which don't get counted in a particular quarter because WWE don't get that info etc. I don't envy you trying to get that PPV list together though, a LOT of variables and different info out there.
