but i wasn't talking about that stuffNah bruh. singing is a God given ability. if I don't have a voice, all the vocal coaching on earth won't ever make me able to hit notes. at best I can carry a tune. so I agree with u there.
Writing, meanwhile, is a skill. some people naturally are good at it, other people work to acquire it.
Rapping though is a combination of a lot of things. you need to have a voice people like, and mix in skills that you can work on like flow, cadence, etc. mostly skills you can hone. but there's also style and stage presence and other things that make the total package
By your definition above, there would never be ghostwriters. the dudes who pen those verses could record and release them and have the hits themselves. that is anything but the case. Plenty of people got sick pen games but lack most or all the other skills that make someone pop off
Look no further than QM. his reference tracks sound like bad karaoke versions of the final product Drake released. He could have re-recorded them a million times but never sounded exactly like Drake did at the end, because he lacks the other abilities there's a reason that guys career hasn't taken off as a solo artist . just saying

Well, in some cases this is true. Young MC was not Tone Loc. I dont have a problem with THAT scenario. The problem people have with Drake is different. Tone Loc made a living off of party type songs. He never compared himself to the other MC's of that time. Drake embodies the braggadocious MC. He embodies certain aspects of hip-hop. He proports to be a dope MC. Writing hooks is different...but if anyone every wrote even a portion of a verse, then I dont see how you cant be viewed as a fraud.

To me it's the entire creative process that's fukked up these days.
You look at some of the classics back in the day and it was one MC and maybe a couple producers, and they made classic songs/sounds people still can't match today. But now dudes need 35 producers and 13 writers to make a song.
It's why I appreciate dudes like nipsey and j.cole right now. They are mostly responsible for their own sound and lyrics.
We all know Drake uses a team of people, but even dudes like Kendrick have dozens of people with a hand in their songs. I don't know why or how, but I can hear the inauthenticity of it in the music.
Looking at how music is made now, compared to back in the day really gives me an even better appreciation for the classics. Those dudes were truly creative.
