Thats a big part of the reason Conservatives hold him in such high esteem.

Bush Sr. & Oliver North and all those right wings hawks didnt think very much of Reagan as a person before he was deified post office, but they liked being able to exploit his obvious mental failings.

The Neo Cons tried to play GW the same way when he was in office, but if you look at the eventual relationship between Bush Jr. & Cheney, he proved to be a stronger commander in chief than Reagan.

i read a couple of books made by former staffers and they basically said this:

-Reagan was hard of hearing and would put on a smile to hide it
-Reagan approached the Presidency as an act he had to matain
-He delegated most of his power and wasnt responsibility for most of what was "done" during his presidency (this explains his corruption allegations
