In the latest episode of Oh You Didn’t Know (via Wrestling Inc), Road Dogg explained why he doesn’t think modern wrestling needs to use blood, as he thinks it’s evolved beyond that. AEW in particular has been criticized by some fans for its use of blood in matches, while WWE rarely uses it intentionally.

He said: “I say don’t go back to doing it. We’ve evolved beyond that… Man, it’s so unclean; it can’t be any more unclean than just blood. There’s enough accidents that happen where I just don’t feel like it’s needed… If I’m a father of daughters, and we’re watching wrestling, and that comes on, we’re turning the channel. And if I’m a father of boys, I’m maybe turning it, too. There’s a reason the other place [AEW] ain’t doing no numbers. They show this kinda stuff, and they do that kinda stuff, and it can’t be ‘popular’ for the mass population… If you wanna do big business, you want mass consumption, so you sacrifice a few things. And I feel like that’s one of the things you sacrifice.

Blood should be useful in a war or a hard way...not a random ass match out of nowhere. Even ECW knew when the blood was useful, and it was "extremeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee".

On the real, as I get older and see how the game changed wrestling wise, I have come to terms that blood, guts, and overkill plunder is a cheap ploy to get eyes on the product.

My son used to play Wrestling Empire and was like "why my matches are not doing good, and the hardcore ones work out"

You answered your question. People love violence, but after a while it becomes a niche'd boxed in perspective from the outside looking in. Sometimes less is more and chemistry is essential.

How I'm supposed to enjoy the Swerve/Hangman match with this cartoon blood drinking bullshyt, when it served no purpose but shock value and cheap awe pops.

Bottom line, blood and wrestling needs to be useful to tell a tale, and not a ploy to get a cheap rating or eyes on the product. The only promotions that can get away with such things are GCW, BJW, and various deathmatch promotions because that's their niche.

He’s right. Especially after years of watching that idiot Jon Moxley do it in EVERY SINGLE MATCH :snoop:

I honestly feel like Mox does the shyt as a way to overcome past trauma. Dude is like the Beanie Sigel of wrestling. WWE wanted him to transition from the streets to the fame, while Mox like "fukkKKK THAT I GOT A FOREHEAD TO CUT!"

And thus, every fukking match has been Adullah the Butcher quality and his vices succumbed him a year or so ago. Mans going on 40 and still trying to live his best Onita life.

GROW THE fukk UP!!

It all goes back to telling a story in the ring. If the story calls for it use it but rarely should it. If we dont hate each other or this is some do or die situation why are we bleeding?

Idk man, it’s not needed all the time but in cases like Roman killing LA Knight this past friday it adds a lot to it. Especially in promo packages.

Idk its a dumb take to me. I get its kind of gis gimmick to make horrible takes and bootlick sports entertainment but come on.

Hardcore wrestling is a genre of wrestling just like horror is a genre of movies.

Imagine some guy watching Scream and being like "Does Ghostface always need to draw blood when he stabs people?" Its the essence of the art. If I dont like that kind of gory stuff i just wont watch it. But I would sound dumb as fukk saying horror has "evolved past it".

Also fukk that "my kids are watching" shyt too. Them kids are easily exposed to worse on a daily basis on TikTok algorithms alone

His good friend Hunter disagrees. WWE would have blood if all of their sponsors supported it. Hunter would be doing Mid Atlantic style brawls on PLEs and shyt.

Their stance comes from a place where they can't really do blood in matches even if they wanted to.

Blood adds a lot to a blood feud.... it is cheapened when it's used all the time or in random matches.
