Tag anyone else I forgot.

It's looking like we will begin with $33M in cap room. With Shields cut it'll be about $42M.

IF we had a GM who used all avenues to build a team, I'd say the priorities should be

CB
OLB/ILB
RB
TE
DL
G

Not expecting much. I saw on another forum that Capers contract is up which would be a big :blessed:

Until Dorsey comes back over, I guess we can expect more of the same.

TT is gonna step aside for sure. We can use Shields' money on someone to help on defense. Clay should hopefully take a payout too which could give us some options.

Hopefully Lacy comes back cheap, I think Monty can take Starks' role but can't handle a full season back there alone.

TJ Lang could come back cheap. How bad was his injury yesterday? Seemed like an ACL or something the way he was crying.

Man, I don't know. This is the guy who drafted Aaron Rodgers, Clay Matthews and hit on more GOOD than BAD first-round picks. In late rounds he found Crosby, Starks, Hyde. Didn't sign many guys, but the few did were studs: Kuhn, Peppers, Woodson, Shields, Cook, Tramon.

He's earned the right to step down on his own terms. But even though he's near retirement age, I feel he cares too deeply — and believes — he can assemble another SB winner.

Rodgers fell into his lap though. And of course he's going to hit on some late rounders especially since he trades back for extra picks. I appreciate he's kept us competitive all these years but all we have to show for it is 1 Superbowl with probably the most talented QB. After Finley retired how long did it take to bring in another threat at TE for Rodgers?

Our defense has consistently struggled since we won the Superbowl and it seemingly gets worse every year. Sure we're always ravaged by injuries but where's the depth? Isn't this the guy that prides himself on stockpiling draft picks and building through the draft?

Got damm cowherd and crew ripped greenbay front office .

Said everything we've been saying all along .

They are wasting away Aaron prime years .

Gotten way too comfortable because Aaron carries this team .

Ripped the from office for never keeping guys and hitting free agency .

BRought up Casey and the season he had.

HE said it's time for TT to step aside .

One thing they said nearly brought the tears my eyes .

" hey gb why dont you get aaron some help so he only has to play two games to the sb. Get the guy some home games !!!"

Ehh I was ok letting Casey go tbh. After last year I thought we we'd be alright with Shields, Randall and Rollins + Gunter and Hyde for depth. Didn't expect all of them to get hurt.

Remember aside from Casey's first year he was either bad or injured :yeshrug:. No excuse for MLB though. If we're gonna stick with a 3-4 you can't trot out a bunch if average guys and hope it works out while we're constantly getting killed over the middle :shaq2:

:blessed::blessed::blessed::blessed::blessed: FINALLY AN ARTICLE THAT SPEAKS ON WHAT I'VE BEEN HARPING ON SINCE 2010

http://www.packersnews.com/story/sp...nn-packers-defense-needs-more-speed/97287464/

The Green Bay Packers never would admit it publicly but they’ve been trying to replace all of their inside linebackers since Desmond Bishop blew out his hamstring in August 2012.

They still are, even after selecting four players there in the last five drafts while at the same time switching two others from outside to inside.

Jake Ryan, Joe Thomas and Blake Martinez were among many on the Packers’ defense who were overmatched 10 days ago in the 44-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC championship game.

“They need a real guy at inside backer,” an executive in personnel for an NFC team said last week. “They’ve got too many slow guys.”
Most folks are gonna be like," :mjcry: But Jake, Joe and Blake are young. It's growing pains." No, the point is they shouldn't have been in a position to be needed on the field. What have they done to EARN that starting spot. Nothing. They were the only MLBs on the roster. That's a terrible reason to hold on to and promote guys.

“We knew what the blueprint looked like,” said Marquand Manuel, a Seahawks’ defensive assistant from 2012-14 who went to Atlanta as Quinn’s secondary coach. “If you don’t have team speed and you have experience, you’re limited by that. It’s a passing league.”

You don't say Marquand. Please explain that to the fan base that considers AJ Hawk an all-pro :heh:

However this is the real key of the article:
Thus, Green Bay has tried to make do by adding Thomas (4.71) as an undrafted rookie in 2014, Ryan (4.65) in the fourth round in 2015 and Martinez (4.67) in the fourth round last year.

In a traditional sense, Ryan and Martinez might be better equipped than Jones and Campbell to stop the run for a 3-4 team. In reality, the Packers are a base 4-2 team, and with their short arms and ordinary speed neither player is anything special against run or pass.

I've been saying this for yeeeeeeeears. We are not a real 3-4 team, because we don't have, nor do we play a real 3-4 base defense. We haven't done so since the 2010 Super Bowl. Howard Green, Ryan Pickett, Raji, and Cullen Jenkins owned the base defense and could win on downs 1-3 with minimum subs.

Once we lost that in 2011, we've just given up and played a nickel defense. This plays against us because Clay Matthews and Peppers/Perry are then forced to play as standard 4-3 defense linemen OUTSIDE OF A STANDARD 4-3 SCHEME :mjlol:. They shouldn't be stretched to do that because you don't have 3 capable linebackers or 2 actual DTs ready to fill in for their weaknesses.

We're always playing our defensive guys out of position and then complaining about their lack of execution.

Hopefully my last post wasn't too much of a rant. Essentially what I'm trying to say for anyone claiming we NEED to run out and get an OLB this draft to replace Peppers, it simply doesn't matter if all the Packers play is a 4-2 due to the limited talent on the field.

Check this out for reference to understand why I've been so aggy about the Packers over the past 7 years:
NFL draft needs for NFC teams - USATODAY.com
Green Bay Packers

First pick: 32nd

Help wanted: OT, OLB, WR. Green Bay did well last year in taking Bryan Bulaga in the first round and establishing him at right tackle. Another tackle is still needed. The Packers are looking for another outside linebacker to pair with dynamic Clay Matthews III. With Donald Driver at 36 and James Jones a free agent, another wide receiver is a must.

2012 NFL Draft: Green Bay Packers draft picks, team needs and recent results
In their NFC divisional round loss to the New York Giants, it became increasingly clear that the Green Bay Packers needed to address defensive end and outside linebacker early in the 2012 NFL Draft. The Giants' pass protection that had been terrible all season gave Eli Manning ample time to find his receivers.
Top 4 Team Needs: DE, OLB, S, C

NFL Draft team needs: Packers
While the offense hasn't disappointed, defense has been an issue for Green Bay. The Packers allowed 21.0 points per game in 2012, ranking 11th in the NFL. That's an improvement over 2011, when they ranked 19th in the league, giving up 22.4 points per contest. While Green Bay has been good against the pass, its run defense has left something to be desired. The Packers allowed 4.5 yards per carry last season and 4.7 two years ago.

Top three needs
Defensive line -- Shoring up that run defense is a top priority for the Packers, and a bulky defensive tackle to clog the middle would be welcome.

Green Bay Packers draft needs and answers for 2014
After an abrupt end to a promising season, the Green Bay Packers must dig deep into the draft to fix some immediate needs. Four positions stand out far more than others that could easily be fixed by one or two players.

A talented OL, safety, LB, or DL could easily turn the recent postseason failures around for a brighter future.

The Green Bay Packers' biggest needs heading into the 2015 draft
1. Inside Linebacker
2. Center
3. Defensive Tackle
4. Tight End
5. Cornerback

http://www.packersnews.com/story/sp...-biggest-draft-needs-facing-packers/80607766/
1. A tight end who can stretch the field.
2. An inside linebacker who can drop into coverage and be on the field in the dime package.
3. Outside linebacker.
4. A versatile defensive lineman with pass-rush ability.
5. Backup offensive tackle
6. A dual-threat running back

:mjlol: Every year for the past 6 drafts we've been pretending that we can just push this shyt off and it'll just magically fix itself

TT is a joke.

Dom and MM are a joke.

Playing Clay at OLB is stupid. He should be at ILB fulltime at this stage of his career.

The other spot has to be filled with a blue chip prospect or a FA signing. WE SHOULD HAVE DRAFTED KENDRICKS when we had the shot.

Between that fiasco and the depletion of the secondary, there's a lot of work to do..

In 2014, our secondary had Tramon-Shields-Hayward-House... and Tramon was the weak spot!

This GM just loves to self sabotage himself by being lazy

@FAH1223 are yall going to fire capers, if so who's going to be the new DC?

He's going to be back :snoop:

Ted Thompson has to fukking sign some athletes who can play ILB, OLB, and CB. He's such a lazy ass GM.

And Clay Matthews has no guaranteed money after 2017. If he doesn't put up, he's getting cut next year. He also needs to go back to playing ILB.

This deep playoff run messed things up for the offseason and the urgency.
