Despite over thirty years in the ring, Ric Flair says he feels fine and doesn’t have any lingering injuries. Flair elaborated on the newest episode of his podcast, and described having to get a physical for the WWE.

“I don’t have any health issues. Everybody else has hips and knees. I had to go to Pittsburgh for a physical because they wanted to do some in-ring stuff with me. I go there to see the heart specialist. My resting heart rate was 42, my blood pressure was 102/60,” Flair said.

Flair said that the doctor asked to check him in, and that he thought the WWE had pulled the wool over his eyes in an effort to get him admitted into a hospital. Flair said that his heart was in such good shape that the doctors actually thought something was wrong with him.

“They tested me for four hours,” Flair said. “The doctor said ‘there’s something wrong with you, has to be,’ and I said ‘yeah, it’s called an hour Broadway every night, brother.’ They cleared me. The guy looked at me and said that I was a medical miracle.”

Flair’s full podcast contains an interview with former WCW Champion Lex Luger and was a great listen. You can hear the full episode at this link.

Flair did a lot of cardio while his contemporaries did a lot of strength building. In his ESPN doc, it was mentioned he hit the stairmaster for a long time.

How long did he do it? 1 hour a day?

Flair attacks his workout regimen with the same ferocity he did in his younger days when he was known to have the best cardio in the business.

“I do close to 30 minutes in cardio at a very high rate. I raise the level of intensity. I do a level 18 on the elliptical at four miles an hour for 20 minutes. That’s 360 calories. I want to see someone else try that. The resistance factor at 18 is brutal. No one goes to 20.”

Flair’s vigorous workout schedule includes an hour and a half in the gym at least six days a week. Not wrestling on a regular schedule, though, has made it that much harder.

“I now have to get myself mentally geared. I was driven when I was younger because I was working every day. It’s hard to put that in your brain every day. But I’m in better shape than any 65-year-old guy alive.”

What does he mean by a level 18? I have a stationary bike I use but there are no levels on it....
