For those not aware, since the cost of limited classic games have gone up, a method that's getting more and more popular is buying reproduction games, which is basically a burned disc or replicated cartridge that has had extensive printing to ensure it looks as close to the original as possible. For an example, at the beginning of 2018, I bought a reproduction jewel case for Marvel Vs Capcom 1, a game I've always had but just the disc, when I was younger I bought the disc from FuncoLand by itself and as a collector now I wanted to complete the whole thing, so instead of buying the whole thing on ebay for 50+ dollars, I bought a repro case for 10 that also included a reproduced manual
As of this post, about 1 hour ago I bought a complete reproduction of Project Justice that includes everything for 19.99
Now as stated above, this is straight up a burned disc that has artwork printed to make it look as close to authentic as possible. Now there's two ways this can be seen being positive or negative.
For positive reasons, I'm getting a playable copy of Project Justice that just cost me about 100 dollars less than the price its going on average on ebay right now. Luckily dreamcast itself dont have too many games like this where Sega Saturn is a whole different story...You'll be lucky to find a copy of burning rangers for less than 250 dollars on ebay. Meanwhile once again, you can get a repro copy for 20 bucks that looks like this
So where the negative group lies is that they fear these can infiltrate the market and be duped as real copies, obviously someone who's not keen to knowing how to spot authentic from fake can wind up spending 300 dollars on something that was made for just 20. Certain groups in the collecting community looks down at reproductions for this reason.
So coli retro brehs, do you have a moral disagreement with buying repros?
