Renisha McBride’s killer waited until her body was cold before calling 911 to report the shooting, according to The Detroit News.

Seeking help after wrecking her car, 19-year-old McBride knocked on the door of a home in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn Heights last Sunday. Instead of assisting her, the homeowner (identified by McBride supporters as Ted Wafer) opened the door and shot McBride in the face with a single shotgun blast.

McBride is black. Ted Wafer is white.

McBride died on the front porch of Wafer’s home at the 16800 block of West Outer Drive near Warren.

The Detroit News obtained an audio copy of the 911 call placed by Wafer from his home at 4:45 a.m. — about an hour after he shot McBride.

“Just received a 911 call from a male (who) thinks he just shot someone on his porch. Then he hung up; we’re trying to call back,” said a female dispatcher.

The 54-year-old homeowner claimed through his attorney that he fired his shotgun because he feared for his life. No charges have been filed against him.

An autopsy revealed McBride was not shot at point blank range.

Meanwhile, the coroner is awaiting results of a toxicology report to determine whether McBride was under the influence when she hit a parked car around 12:57 a.m. Police who arrived on the scene of the single car accident said the driver fled the area.

Police are trying to determine where McBride was between the time she hit the parked car and when she was shot.
