Remember when “Mueller da gawd’s” FBI set up 7 Black men to rot in prison?

They were sentenced in 2009. The "followers" were all released between 2013 and 2016, while the leader was released in 2018. That's real time, but I wouldn't usually use the term "rot in prison" for guys who were mostly out in 4-7 years.

Setups like this are sus as fukk but it's not like they didn't make their own beds.

According to the indictment, Batiste told an FBI informant posing as an al-Qaeda member around December 16, 2005 that he was organizing a mission to build an "Islamic Army" in order to wage jihad against the United States with his "soldiers" to destroy the Sears Tower. He requested a list of materials and equipment needed to wage jihad, including boots, uniforms, machine guns, radios, and vehicles.
Prosecutors presented evidence drawn from 15,000 FBI recordings, including one in which Narseal Batiste said they would make sure no one survived destruction of the 110-story Sears Tower, and another which features ceremony in which each member of the group swears allegiance to al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden.

Whether or not they were going to do anything, they legitimately thought they were fukking around with real Al Queda representatives. This is a bit of a "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" situation. If they were serving decades for terrorism I'd be all about it but hard to get worked up over doing a few years....

I said he set them up to rot in prison. The FBI tried to hit these guys with about 70 years apiece.

The only reason they did as little time as they did was because multiple juries called bullshyt.

1 was initially acquitted. The other 6 had 2 mistrials before another was acquitted and 5 got convicted of lesser charges.

These guys were just some dusty hood dudes who believed some goofy shyt who were infiltrated by FBI. They weren’t terrorists. They had no material plans. The FBI agents came to them like “let’s blow up the Sears Tower” and they were like “ok whatever.” The only material evidence at trial was some boots that agents gave them.

I thought of this randomly cause I remember when it was announced and the media and government acted like they foiled the next 9/11. CNN broke away from regular programming to the breaking news that Alberto Gonzalez was having a press conference to announce they stopped the a plot to blow up the Sears Tower and talked about how they were linked to Al-Qaeda when really they just manipulated some TLR posters doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu and reading the Bible in a Liberty City warehouse. And after the initial day or 2 news cycle, they never talked about it again.

Yeah, there was a LOT of that shyt after 9/11. Most of the time it was random Muslims who got the heat, and like you said media always blew it up like America had been saved from some big plot when there's no evidence anything would have happened without the government instigating. I agree with what you're implying that this kinda government sting should be illegal - you should have to prove existing crime, not create crime.

Anyone who watched Meullers congressional testimony knows he was an overhyped scumbag. Dude did everything in his power to downplay the investigation outcome. That a$$hole even refused to read quotes from the report because he didn't want Trump ether coming out of his own mouth.

I don't think anyone here has a picture of Mueller on their nightstand. Mueller, Cohen, Avenatti.... they were all just a means to an end of a racist, fascist, sociopath which culminated with his followers storming the capitol to try and keep him in power.

This is something that the FBI does on a regular basis. There's literally a long-form article calling attention to it every year or so - replete with FBI overreach, coercion, entrapment, blatant skirting of federal and state laws, etc.

There was just an article from earlier this year about one of the guys currently in prison for like 80 years who basically was recruited, radicalized, and walked step-by-step into a terror plot. He literally tried to get out of it because he didn't want to kill anybody, and the feds still tried to push him, then arrested and threw the book at him.

Mueller was the head of the FBI during one of the biggest extremes of FBI history (next to the Red Scare and Black revolutionary periods) and after they dropped the ball along with the DHS and the CIA on 9/11 - their outrageous conduct only grew.
