I found I was a non-responder to caffeine so I was dumping money on it when it wasn’t keeping me awake. Was sensitive to B-Vitamins so that provided a big boost taking a B-Complex. Found out I also had a tricky neurotransmitter (dopamine/choline/etc.) mutations so doctor worked out the best balanced supplementation for it. I basically needed more dopamine, but not too much because I had some genes that provided extra dopamine so there is a case of under/overdoing it. Basically Modafinil or Adderall along with less Choline supplementation (I produce more) make me Einstein but can’t do too much of it, so low dose or one full dose every so often is great and enough to carry a few days. Main issue is really to prolong/enhance focus because I have a dominant/effective Default Mode Network. Additionally, I was extra sensitive to the benefits of a Keto diet (and its impact on learning) so I go on that kind of diet when I need to as well.

But yeah, exercise caution because everyone is different and playing with neurotransmitters can be dangerous. Somebody taking excess dopamine or GABA for example can mess their life up while it’s a neurotransmitter someone else is missing. That’s why these reports can be beneficial. To make it more wild, siblings can have crazy different genes and reactions. Best way is to get the data.
That’s amazing and I’ll seriously look into that

Meh. My DNA was already in the system any way.

:manny:

I’ve been arrested before and was on probation so they already got me.

Update: Deleted my 23andMe account.

Not trying to have my DNA sold.

This is one of the biggest threats to Americans' personal data in decades. If you're a 23andMe customer, I strongly urge you to delete your data to protect it from whoever the new buyer might be. Here’s how:

I can't imagine that clicking on delete would somehow magically eliminate your data vs just eleminate your access to it.

Slow clapping for all the commenters who want to let everyone know they didn't give their DNA to 23andme. So helpful.

You know what I don't understand, you all keep putting up these posts about how bad it is, but y'all are doing nothing to grind the Senate to a crawl and make the regime pay for every illegal act it does. Regime Nominees are also still sailing through. And I just don't understand the logic in that.

15/35
🇺 themadstatist.bsky.social
For what it's worth, I made the comment on this post, but I could've easily done the same on any of the others about the illegal and unconstitutional acts of this regime.

16/35
🇺 themadstatist.bsky.social
Apparently it's unimaginable that someone might choose to use any post to make point about a politician's or political Party's actions or inaction in general; even when they add a note about it as the second half of the comment. Oi. :/

Oregonian here to thank Mr. Wyden, I already deleted my data a few months ago when I saw the news. It was easy to delete it at that time, but you do need to remember your login data. Thankfully I have a password manager app because I haven't used the 23andme website in many years.

21/35
🇺 youwriteuniversity.bsky.social
For many adoptees this is the only recourse they have to finding out who they are and who their bio families are. That's how someone in my family found their biological dad, cousins, siblings etc.

22/35
🇺 marriedtoamedium.bsky.social
understood. i am an adoptee. but im not interested in finding out who my birth parents are, or to link w bio family. my adoptive family is crazy enuff as it is...LOL

23/35
🇺 youwriteuniversity.bsky.social
I get that you might not be interested, but there are many people out there who are interested in who their bio family is, if for no other reason than to know their medical histories.

24/35
🇺 marriedtoamedium.bsky.social
i know that. i personally know ppl who are very motivated by family ancestry. since i dont have one, for me, is not something im interested in.

whats happening with this company, in particular, is one of the privacy issues that concerns me with surrendering DNA to a database. risky.

25/35
🇺 jerzeegirl2000.bsky.social
I deleted my data and it makes me so sad because that company did so much for me in allowing me to find my long lost cousins.

26/35
🇺 timashman.bsky.social

29/35
🇺 not-so-fluffy.bsky.social
I got in, but the site is running really, really slow, presumably because of server overloads. There is an entire page devoted to the current bankruptcy news and assurances that everything is secure and fine. Before you delete your account I recommend you ask for a genome file to store on a drive

DNA testing had the exact same hype cycle as AI a decade ago. Grossly overexaggerated capability allowed founders to harvest VC cash from those caught up in the fantasy.

It is useful for genealogy, but that's not a big market, and Ancestry and FamilytreeDNA have come to dominate it.

🇺 waldo42.bsky.social
DNA testing was the AI of 10 years ago.

"Giving them access to your full genetic profile" is a product of drinking the VC koolaid.

What these tests actually test is nothing like a "full genetic profile".

Autocorrect is closer to AGI than autosomal tests are to a full sequencing.

32/35
🇺 waldo42.bsky.social
There are millions of snps in the human genome. These companies test for the presence of a couple dozen that are known to be useful for ethnicity estimates. It's like taking a 50 pixel photo of someone.

These tests are like $25. They aren't sequencing your genome.
