Reddit Co-Owner Aaron Swartz Found Dead

Internet activist and programming whiz kid Aaron Swartz has died in New York City from an apparent suicide. He was 26.

Mr Swartz's death, which happened on Friday, was reported by Massachusetts Institute of Technology newspaper The Tech after it received confirmation from both Swartz's uncle and attorney.

"The tragic and heartbreaking information you received is, regrettably, true," attorney Elliot R Peters told The Tech in an email.

At the age of 14, Mr Swartz co-authored RSS 1.0, the first specification of the widely used online content syndication tool.

Mr Swartz was indicted in July 2011 on charges of stealing millions of documents from MIT and online scientific journal archive JSTOR. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in September 2012.

Mr Swartz founded software company Infogami which later merged with the popular social news site Reddit.

He also founded and served as the director of Demand Progress, a non-profit political action group that focuses on "civil liberties, civil rights, and government reform".

Dude was a legit genius. If he had enough free time to commit suicide he had enough free time to figure out how to get to Mexico. Instead he was like "let me catch this ultimate L".
