Never saw Red Tails, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say The Tuskegee Airmen flick that came on HBO some years back (with Laurence Fishburne, Cuba Gooding Jr, Malcolm Jamal Warner, and others) was a much better film.

The movie sucked but I understand why the pilots wanted to prove themselves. White people didn't think blacks possessed the mental nor physical capabilities required for pilots. Successfully completing those missions was kind of a take that towards that stupid thinking.

The poor writing and acting kind of trivialized the whole thing.

The point is, that the dude who died was one of the only ones to scrap at the bar and didn't give a fukk(hence the PAWGing). The movie was a bit c00nish.

However, it was inspired on a true story, and those surviving Tuskegee cats deserved to get a movie about them.
