Loved this
if this was in theaters would have been one of the more surprising and uncomfortable watches of the year
Didn't recall exactly Reality Winner's story, but I did follow when it happened. The movie is very naturalistic and nuanced, without being overly political, it leads the viewer inch by inch to it's points, larger social issues, government overreach, men and women. The script is all from the pages of the FBI transcripts and the agents are played expertly, the kind of humor, disarming comments, disparaging remarks that guys like that love.
It's an uncomfortable watch, because of the script and the direction, you want her to ask for a lawyer, to recognize her situation, but she and the viewer are led into a darker and darker place, as the day itself goes on. The FBI does it all with "everydayman" bullshyt, but they basically get her to talk without an attorney present, which is their job, and their mandate, but it feels like a betrayal of what we think of , when we think of justice, especially as depicted in movies. and then because of the last administration she was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
