In college, it's used by Princeton since they're generally overmatched athletically, but all their players can textbook pass, so when they get a good backdoor cut, regardless of position, they will hit the open man.

In the Pros, I've only seen the early 2000s Kings use it with success. But that's only because their 2 Bigs (Divac/Webber) were great passers and Bibby was basically a shooting guard, so he didn't need ball-in-hand to get going.

Looking at the Lakers talent ...

Nash - PnR master and shooting opportunist. His most comfortable looks come off his PnR reads and in motion. Tonight he basically initiated the offense off PnR, but Gasol was the key initiator, so Nash faded into Bolivia most of the time off the ball.

Kobe - 90s era style dominant scorer. Killer with ball in hand and most comfortable backing down a player 1:1. I really can't see him spending energy running empty cuts waiting for Gasol to find him. I'm sure in his head he's already thinking :childplease:

Artest - If he's to play the Peja role, this is gonna be a hilarious season. He cannot read/pass to the cut and he shouldn't be counted on to knock down threes.

Gasol - He actually fits the system, but should the Lakers really be running a majority of the offense through Pau? That's a hedge bet I would never take.

Dwight - He can't pass or shoot for shyt. He becomes a ball stopper in a pass heavy offense like the Princeton system.

When the bench came in and tried to run the offense? :heh:

I'm just curious the thought process of trying to install the Princeton offense with this roster.

Kobe actually wanted the offense, mostly b/c it's similar to the triangle. More read and react rather than just calling out plays which is what they did last year. They needed a system in place after last years' BS.

However, i'm not sure this is the right system. At least not with Nash/Dwight. Should be let Nash run the show. They should sub where Kobe/Gasol are running Princeton on the court with some bench, then dwight/nash doing PnRs with some bench, then when all the starters are in, let Nash decide what's best. Kobe and Gasol look like the only ones comfortable in it and Nash is looking like a role player, rather than 2 time MVP.
