I passed some 4:44 mustard to my Pops over the weekend, because he knows Hov is my favorite MC, and someone that was a major influence to my approach to music. Pops called me on my lunch break today, just to tell me he digested the album, and he feels this is one of the best albums he's heard in 40 years (from a lyrical and contextual standpoint; sonically, he wasn't feeling the production on any of the songs other than "Bam", but he's West Indian, so he's biased.)
So then he asks me to send him my 3 favorite Jay-Z songs for him to listen to.
At first, I was like...
that's easy work. But then, I started trying to narrow my list. 
Long story long, I sent my Pops 3 tracks. But it was sooooooo many songs, freestyles, etc. to choose from, I was going over and over, back and forth for like a half an hour over songs, then I realized I had to frame it better for a person whose never really heard who Jay-z is musically, over the span of his career.
So, to simplify it, I realized I look at Hov like a play in three acts:
So why not just score the arcs of his narrative?
If I'm right, everyone who posts won't have a list that matches anyone else's.
