Is it just me or are the physical copies easier to indulge in?

When I read PDF books, it has to be something strictly informative (i.e. Tutorials, For Dummies, How to, etc.). Otherwise, I find it very difficult to concentrate on the subject. The same applies with writing, something about the computer screen dulls my attention span to levels Im ashamed of.

On the contrary, I can lose track of time reading a physical copy of a book, likewise when writing with pen and paper. My thoughts run free and before I know it I've read through half of a book or written a page or 2.

I spoke to a few friends about it and most have said it doesn't affect them either way, so how do you guys work? Are you more productive with or without a computer?

Reading:

Strictly reading physical copies or on my Kindle. Cannot stare at an lcd screen for too long or my head hurts, my eyes are strained and bloodshot, and I get disgusted with technology afterwards.

Writing:

Depends. If I want to go free flowin' then I write on paper...which reminds me that I purchased a moleskin notebook a long time ago. :shaq:

If I want something organized and highly editable then I'm going with the old Macbook.

Reading on the computer:
30-45 minutes straight, then walk away from the computer for 15-20 minutes then lay down or go outside.

Writing:
I do a hybrid formation.

Pre-write on paper.(literally scribble down anything, the point is to keep your mind moving)

Then open up wordpad, talk more sh*t leave in the errors. (don't revise sh*t)

Rest
Then open microsoft word, revise the errors.

Rest
Then finally run it through a txt to speech program, to make sure it sounds coherent.

= :win:

No lie, despite my fragmented post online, my polished material, could parallel Ph.D level.

I also leave a ton of time for illumination to occur. Forget studying abrasively.

Illumination >>>>> studying word for word.....

having a functional Long Term Memory = :win:

in essence, it's how you manage your time.....

Reading: If it's a book, I prefer having a physical copy. If it's a report, study, etc. I'm cool dealing with a pdf if it's something short, but if it's more than 10 pages, I typically print it out.

Writing: I'm all about the computer. I can't even remember the last time I wrote something down on paper. Just something about sitting and typing that helps me formulate my thoughts better.

If its a schoolbook, fukk buyin that shyt, I'm pdfin it. But a physical copy of a book is definitely better than reading it off your iphone, though I've never used a kindle so i don't know if that's good.

Writing, for disorganized shyt like outlines/brainstorming and stuff like that I def prefer paper

I can type faster than I can write so I'm better on the computer for writing. Jotting notes on paper works also but I can't write page after page. I'd rather type that.

Reading... prefer paper.

:wtf: I can write faster than i can type, and I can type roughly 35-40wpm. But there's something about writing out your thoughts while brain storming. It's like I know, I haven't fully spit everything out until my hand it hurting and both side of the paper are full.

Yea I enjoy reading on my ipad... But I enjoy physical copies too... And I can even do the audiobook way because of the amount of music i have listened to over the years. I learn well audibly.

Never been able to read PDFs on the computer tho.

Writing comes out well on the computer or paper. I think in bunches... So i write in note format almost and have to clean it all up at the end. The computer helps with that.

Good thread.

Before I jumped over to PDF book files, I would finish novels in three days. To have every book to your desire in the palm of your hands, is daunting and time-consuming to actually finish them now. I'm still reading a 289 page book, that I started a month ago. However, I wouldn't change the evolution of technology for nothing.
