Since Game of Thrones has brought this age old debate to the forefront again....

I thought It was almost universally accepted reading the books are the better experience but it seems some of the coli peeps don't appreciate a good read now and then.

Some of my favorites are Holes, The Harry Potter Series, Hunger games, of course song of ice and fire.....I really couldn't get into the hobbit books though and I actually enjoyed the film universe a lot better. Other than that I almost always liked the total package of the book versions over their screen counterparts.

Thoughs?

Most of the time the book is better than the show/movie.

It goes into more detail and sometimes explains things that can't really be explained in a TV show or a movie.

My favorite book is Stephen King's IT and its just so much better than the movie, it doasen't compare.

I'll admit I don't read much these days and I'm lazy, I'd rather just watch the movie or the show most of the time.

Sometimes the on screen version is better than the book but from my experience, if u can actually be bothered to read it, the book is better.

i prefer reading...i imagine being one of the characters and put myself in the story when i read...the movie adaptation of a comic or graphic novel is never better than the book...

I'm gonna say the books. It's just more rewarding reading it and a writer can do so much in a book without as many restrictions that movies have placed on them. You just play it all out in your own head. It's like the book is the script but you make a movie tailored to your imagination with it.

This is why I like the book/manga/comic in most respects, but seeing a manga or comic is motion with some nice animation and being able to experience it multiple times in 1 sitting always adds to it.

Often times it really depends on the source material for me.

For me it depends on the author and there writing style that gets me into it. For example a song of Ice and fire has tons of continuity that as a comic book fan I like so in that case I like the book more than the show. On the other hand I find the writing style of Harry potter books bad and just watched the movies instead which I really liked.

books by far

the character designs and setting you come up with in your imagination will always be better than what you'll see on the tv or movie adaptation

and you pick up on subtle things alot easier in the books, not to mention that you can really see what the characters are thinking
