:dead: @ arguing for socialism with a straight face...

Socialism, and systems resembling it, have a very clear track record throughout history.
Only really, really smart people can ignore history and present socialist ideas as new and great :snoop:

Eh...Loury won. Other dude raised legitimate criticisms about capitalism, but didn't really make a compelling case about how his communist society would be implemented and function.

Yeah they picked a bad dude to present the socialist case, they should have picked one of Marxian economists from UMass to present the socialist side. I still think Loury would have held his own but it would have been a debate with someone near his level.

"We live in a world of poverty, war, and environmental devastation. A world where living standards for working people plummet while an elite few enjoy lives of unbelievable wealth and power.

Something different—an alternative to capitalism—is desperately needed. But what should replace it?

This book proposes socialism. A society built from the bottom up through the struggles of ordinary people against exploitation, oppression, and injustice—one in which people come before profit. A society based on the principles of equality, democracy, and freedom."

He suggest the state of the world is due to capitalism :heh:

and presents socialism as new and fresh... :snoop:

I'm gonna download and read it though :manny:
