Afro Samurai:8.75

For day 37 of the rate the anime series the coli realized how funky, hip, wavy brotha Malcolm samurai rolls out and gave Afro Samurai a black fist score of 8.75 putting it over Rurouni Kenshin on our list.

On to day 37

Interested to see how SOL anime are taken into account going forward, this one was a 7/10, I actually preferred this to Clannad which was made by the same guys

Touched on a lot of same themes although I thought this one had better humor

Angel Beats seems to be in a weird spot for the audience of this poll. Aired nine years ago, wasn't on Toonami and is not a shounen. It's actually one of the most popular anime of the decade.

Watched this live in 2010 and thought it was a strong sentimental drama then. All of the characters are stuck in limbo for one reason or another and have to resolve a personal trauma to move on. But they start to form bonds with other lost souls making it hard for them (and the viewer) to seperate. I'll never forget the reveal of who Angel really was and how Otonashi died to begin with.

Angel Beats doesn't always try to depress the viewer though, a lot of it is objectively funny as it tries to inject comedic relief whenever it can. So you can experience a wide range of emotions throughout


Not totally sure how I'd feel about this show if I watched it now as opposed in 2010. But I have a lot of great memories of discussing this show episode to episode with friends who were into it, remember all the goodbye scenes, funny moments and that unforgettable ending. There's enough nostalgia and appreciation here to give it a 8 at least. I hope it gets enough votes to qualify, because the poll does need more genre diversity.

Nah you gotta do Clannad breh, one of the most famous/popular SoL ever even if you aren’t that big of a fan. I can tell already SoL won’t be doing so well though

@Consumed yea I think that was a stark difference between this & Clannad, it doesn’t try to depress viewers at every corner, and there is actually quite a bit of humor in the overall series. The episode they are all playing that elimination game going down the underground is genuinely one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen

thinking about it now, outside of Youhei, I enjoyed this cast & MC a good deal more
