Multi-Syllable Rhyming:

Multies are phrases in a line of rap where more than one syllable rhymes. These phrases can be many syllables in length.

Triple Syllable Rhyming:

"...Is this the first meal I've had today?"
I ask myself, subconsciously I grab the plate,
emaciated mouth devours half away.
Small soup and bread, the crumbs: the few I left,
ran my tongue along the bowl just to scoop the rest

had-to-day, grab-the-plate, half-a-way (3 syllables)
soup-and-bread, few-I-left, scoop-the-rest
(3 syllables)

Quadruple Syllable Rhyming:

So every single time you've had a thought about hell,
it's a cut in the hourglass, a notch in the belt.
Don't get stuck as the hour passes, lost in yourself;
embrace all that hour at the cost to excel.

thought-a-bout-hell, notch-in-the-belt, lost-in-your-self, cost-to-ex-cel (4 syllables)

Triple and Quintuple Syllable Rhyming:

I quietly close my eyes, duck my head and clench my teeth,
And step below the rising swing that ebbs beside my cheek.
Let redness rise beneath; the dead inside me reap the first connection!
Lesson learned: his neck resigns, it leaks.

close-my-eyes, low-the-rise (3 syllables)
head-and-clench-my-teeth, ebbs-be-side-my-cheek, red-ness-rise-be-neath, dead-in-side-me-reap, neck-re-signs-it-leaks
(5 syllables)

Even Sextuple Syllable Rhyming:

“The subway, near the vents of rising smoke,
just listen for the sound of the relentless crying souls."

vents-of-rise-ing-smoke, re-lent-less-cry-ing-souls ( 5 and 6 syllables)

How Do I Get Better at Multies? (PJK from B-Boys)

The best thing you can do to get better at multies is to read the dictionary. This sounds pretty simple, but I mean literally read it once, all the way through. There are rhyming dictionaries out there as well, but I personally feel as if it takes away my own style and personality...I also feel like I'm cheating, so I have never used them. I couldn't even tell you where to find them. I have read most of the dictionary, almost the whole thing. Just skim-read it...you'll be surprised how much you retain. Vocabulary is they key, because no one wants to see you rhyme the same things over and over again.

Inner Rhyming:

An inner rhyme is a rhyme that is found within a line of rap, as opposed to one rhyme placed solely on the end.

Bullet_red.png
Example:

Ungifted newbies box pretty much gave you a frame...
But a lil dooby and pressure probably made him insane.

The inner DieVerge has chosen is `dooby` and `newbie`. Inners are the glue that solidly bond lines; without them, you have flimsy sentences with rhymes pasted haphazardly on the end. But DieVerge`s end rhymes (italicized) are noticeably strong; this is because they are multi-syllable. We`ll cover their power shortly.

RHYME SCHEMES

a rhyme scheme is basically like a blueprint for your writtens or freestyles for that matter. Its all about where your rhyming words are that make this important. Cuz where you rhyme in your lines drastically dictates how your flow will sound.

the "x" represents filler words that pertain to the line but doesnot rhyme

the CAPPED letters such as "A" "B" "C" "D "E" represent your rhyming words.

SYLLABLE COUNT

this is partially hand in hand with bar length. IF you count your syllables in each bar you want to have them around the same as well.. I usually stay around 12-15 syllables per line/bar.
Practice and you'll find a syllable count which your comfortable with.

Punchlines:
Well, if you do not know what one is, i suggest you find out.

To make punchlines, i think that the number one easiest way is to take popular saying or phrases...
an example of this:

& i'll Spare the kids.. but today im leaving THIS bytch raped & torn
it's not that we Hate YOU.. we just Hate that YOU WERE BORN
-evolve

the phrase "hate you were born" is a common phrase, making this a punchline. this wasnt the best example, but a good example anyway.

a standard punchline form:
this kind of punch is either just funny... or makes a comparison of two things...

example:
your verses are BlAh...i told u u're garbage no need to ignore me
y? bother 2 talk about how wack u r, when ur verses.. do it 4 me !

thats a example of a funny one.

here the comparison kind:
this ones weak, but the kind im talking about and i didnt have all day to find examples.

Your verses just stall for time like bathroom watches

stalls are in b-rooms and watches relate to time...

Are you listening? Can you hear the beat? What you have is:
bass drum bass drum

bass drum bass drum

bass drum bass drum

bass drum bass drum (in some beats that’s usually the transitional phase, where the melody changes a bit)
and it starts again!
Now just change the basses and drums with numbers from 1 to 4. It goes like..
1 2 3 4 <——-That’s a Bar
1 2 3 4<——-That’s a Bar
1 2 3 4<——-That’s a Bar
1 2 3 4 <——-That’s a Bar
One standard song has three verses. Each verse is made up of four quatrains. Each quatrain is made up of two couplets. Each couplet is made up of two bars. Is it clearer than before? I hope so.
Bottom Line-How to Count Music
All you gotta do in order to count bars/music is just to sync in with the speed of the instrumental and count the 4 beats. Let me give you a good analogy. Are you working out? If not, you should start. Think of it as sets of repetitions. The set is your verse. The repetitions are your bars. You do 16 bars for one verse. Same like doing 16 repetitions for a set.
Why do you need to be able to count bars?
Well, first of all it allows you great freedom when you write. You can start your rap from any place you feel like. Second of all, next lesson I will be telling you: Now I want you to write me a couplet with a rhyme scheme 4-2-4. That means, 2 bars(couplet) with a rhyme on the 4th beat on the first bar and rhymes on the 2nd and 4th beat on the second bar. Confused? Dont worry.. We will talk about rhyme schemes next time. My point was that it’s essential to know how to count bars.
Homework
Why don’t you to pick a few instrumentals (your own choice) and start practicing your music counting. Go on youtube, find a random instrumental and start counting. Sync in with the speed of the melody and remember.. 1 2 3 4..1 2 3 4..
