Gamers will soon be able to judge the merit of Rambo: The Video Game themselves. Publisher Reef Entertainment revealed that they're bringing a playable build of the game to Gamescom later this summer.
"We have been quiet since we acquired the Rambo license last August," said Reef Entertainment commercial director Craig Lewis. "During this time we have been dedicated to creating a videogame for consoles and PC that will allow Rambo fans and gamers across the globe to really get under the skin of Rambo and wield his iconic weapon-set in battle."
No details on the game have been released yet. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's a shooter. The likely storyline is as follows: Some poor a$$holes get taken hostage in a foreign country and it's up to Rambo to do whatever.
As you may have gleaned from the earlier paragraph, I'm a bit of a skeptic. All we've heard so far of this game is the name Rambo. It's not really that compelling of a license for a video game because, well, damn near every shooter out there is essentially Rambo. The main character in a shooter is frequently a heavily-armed man taking on an entire army by himself. It's tough to see what innovation the Rambo license can bring to the genre, then.
Gamescom 2012 will take place from August 15th to 19th in Cologne, Germany.
