damn you were able to get all the samples? this is amazing
yea, it was a pain in the ass, though. It took me the whole afternoon on Sunday while pausing the football games, going back and forth and sh*t. The easiest ones to find were the drum break and the flute sample; they're both on the same song ("Ashley's Roachclip" by Sou Searchers).
The bass was an interpolation of Dennis Edwards' "Don't Look Any Further" so I had to replay that, which was kind of a pain in the ass because it was difficult hearing the low frequencies to figure out the melody. So, what I did was find the bass tabs for "Don't Look Any Further" (which was in Am) and then transposed it to Fm with a couple of tweaks for the Rakim track.
The singing part is just a straight loop of "Im Nin'alu" by Ofra Haza then just lowered a half-step.
The quotes "Ooh gosh, the music just turns me on" and "You make me feel so good" were both on different songs by this Reggae artist, Michael Dread.
The quote, "This is a journey..." is from Geoffrey Sumner's "Train Sequence." It's an old-timey record with just sound effects. I couldn't find this on iTunes or Amazon - I try to cop the samples I use just for documentation and future use when I can - so I had to swipe this off YouTube.
The BIGGEST pain in the ass was finding that "Doo doo doo doo doo" right before the beat drop. That's from Salsoul Orchestra's "Ohh I Love It (Love Break)" record. The problem was, after I downloaded this 7:48 record off iTunes I realized the sample was from the 12" single version which was 7:15 long (I could not find this version of the record anywhere digitally,). So, I ended up swiping that from YouTube, too.
It was fun. I ended up blending the remix with the original version; also, I kind of used arranging ideas from Nas' "Stillmatic (Freestyle)".
Anyways, thanks for the listen.
