the same way it's always paid. BMI/ASCAP publishing. If a song is played every hour on thousands of stations across Amerikkka, that's thousands of dollars a day for the songwriter in publishing. The songwriter is paid for publishing on radio play and not the artist. For example, when SWV sampled "human nature", Michael Jackson saw none of that money. That was all Steve Porcorro from Toto and John Bettis splitting the 50% share for being sampled(or however much they were given). This is why owning publishing is important.
