Anybody signing up for some good races? I just signed up for the Triple Crown of Running in Louisville, it’s a 5K, 10K, and 15K with two weeks between each race. Gotta get back on my shyt, get my times down and respectable again so I can talk about them to runners without being ashamed. Used to do the St. Jude’s Half in Memphis every year, but sitting out this year to get my shyt together and hopefully have a decent time the next half I attempt, like less than two hours. Any suggestions for races to try next year? Willing to travel to large cities east of the Mississippi.

Haven’t raced all year but I’m running a marathon in the fall, my third. Focusing on training now and cutting weight by late October. I’ve done so many races (5k to half) at this point that I just go tired to the corrals, bag checks, etc.

But I did run a half in Montreal in April and a 10 miler in Philly (which was rainy from start to finish :francis:)

2020 I’ll jump back into racing again and focusing more on travel based around races so i can see some great cities and knock out a race at the same time.

I don’t know if I’ll ever do a full. Most of the time after I’ve done a half, and I’m leaving the hotel to get lunch or something, I see folks coming back who ran the full and they look like they’re in pain. Like barely walking, every step hurts kinda pain. Being lighter definitely makes a big difference. I’m about 30 lbs heavier than when I did my first half a few years ago, and my first and second half-marathons are a lot faster than all the other ones I’ve done.

I’ve thought about doing the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half in Montreal, but not this year since it’s in September. I use races as a way of traveling too. Usually going somewhere within driving distance of Louisville, so I can get just get off work early Friday and roll out. So mostly races in Ohio, Tennessee and Indianapolis so far; but I wanna expand out to other cities a short flight away. I like Saturday races, because I can get the race over with and still be able to hit up the town on Saturday night.

I'm doing the Thanksgiving Half Marathon in Atlanta this year. most i've done was a regular 10k and a spartan race that I think was 5 miles, so this we'll be a challenge for me

I'm going to start meeting up with a running group on Saturday mornings in addition to my self training

I've done a half marathon, but I don't even have a goal to ever run a full marathon. Almost all the research I've done online says that running a full marathon is unhealthy in multiple ways, and it's only worth it for the bragging rights.

A couple of months ago I signed up for this 10 mile race at the end of September:
New Balance Bronx 10 Mile

Though, I have to admit after I signed up I've been totally slacking off on my running. I was having a little heel pain, and that got me out of my routine. I've been walking maybe 17 miles a week, but I haven't been doing much actual running at all. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can build back up to distance running.

I had a similar situation one half marathon I did. I got real sick about 6 weeks out from the race. I rarely trained at all after that, but the race and hotel were non refundable and I’d already gotten that Friday before off work. Ended up going to Memphis and finishing the race by doing 1 mile run/walk intervals after mile 4 or 5. Time was slow as hell, but I was just glad I finished though.

I really hope I can break 9min/mile average for the race, but if I'm not actually training properly I hope I'm not deluding myself.

Personally I hate running and I have never ever dedicated time to improving my fitness for running at any distance so major props to you and anyone else running these mileage :salute:

Bronx 10 Mile race today. The 9:00 pace guy passed me just before the end, but I caught up to him and passed him to finish just under 90 min.

I've done a 5K and 10K. My parents and sister's have done halfs, but honestly, I don't think I care that much for it. Most I've run in one go is 8.5 miles. I like running for the cardio benefits. 3-4 miles and I'm good. Don't need too much else after that.

I'll probably try a half marathon again next year, but I pretty much ran out of gas at the 11th mile last time I ran one. My split times for today show that my last mile was faster than my average, so 10M seems to be an OK distance for me

Man I remember when I was running 9:30 min miles for like 4 miles straight. Gotta get back at it.

That's a good pace, especially if you didn't train that much for the race. If you can do 10 at that pace, without a lot of training, you can definitely do 13.1. Time might be a lil' slower if you don't train enough, but you can definitely finish a half marathon.
