From 92 to about 97, I would try to listen every Thursday night faithfully. Even on Sundays when they had the Hot 97 show, if I wasn't out at the Tunnel that night or getting into whatever, I would always try to catch it. I think towards the last year of the shows run, the chemistry wasn't there between Stretch and Bob. They discussed before the reason being was that both of their musical taste became not in sync anymore. Not going to lie, when Bob started having a little more input in playing music on the show, some of the selections became a little too left field for my taste.
I was still a kid back then, but I was heavy into my tapes. So I told Stretch later, I was totally bootlegging that show and selling copies in school for $5. LOL!! I was hitting the dollar store and copping mad Maxell blank tapes and every Wednesday night, I would record WNYU's NY Live with Martin Moore and Mayhem and then Thursday night, I would do their second show of the week, and then tape Bob and Stretch. I never missed an episode. My little hustle was to tape the shows and then sell them because I knew nobody was crazy enough to stay up that late, but me, lol.
But you're right though, it seemed like they were beefing or something. It would be Stretch by himself one week, and he would be playing street sh*t like CNN, Mobb and Royal Flush, and then next week, Bob would be solo playing sh*t like Juggaknots, Tony Bones and Sir Menelik. LOL!!
