From what I recall of the process, you put down 2 or 3 items that you want & who ever gets your name picks an item off your list

If you don't really "know" the person's names you're drawing, then go with a gift card.

I always opt for food or convenience places like Royal Farms or 7-11. I think the card has more value that way because they can buy way more items with $25 in one of those stores than some store in the mall.

If you talk with the person a lot you can try to find something more personalized. For instance this year I'm doing "snack" jars as gifts and one girl likes spearmint trident gum so I'll fill hers with those, this other guy likes peanut m&ms so his jar will be filled with those. Same gift just personalized based on what they like.
